About Severe Headache Expert

A recent picture of Dr Raeburn Forbes, author of www dot severe headache expert dot com My name is Raeburn Forbes. For about 7 years I have been a practising NHS Consultant Neurologist at Craigavon Area Hospital in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, UK.

During my 17 years practice in Neurology, people with headache have made up for almost 25-30% of all people I see.

In the last 7 years I have taken a special interest in headache disorders, and am a member of The British Association for the Study of Headache, The International Headache Association and recently The American Headache Society.

Why?

I realise that many doctors and patients struggle with how to diagnose and treat severe headaches.

Yet a successfully diagnosed and treated headache is gratifying for both patient and doctor.

What you will read is based on the scientific headache literature and what I see working in my day to day practice.

It is intended to be an accurate representation of what I tell my own patients and what I teach health professionals.

I trained in Medicine at the University of Dundee Medical School, graduating in 1992, and completed my specialist training in Neurology in July 2003.

I have worked as a Consultant Neurologist in Craigavon Area Hospital since March 2004. I was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in the summer of 2007.

My research interests include headache disorders, specifically thunderclap headache, and health service research relating to management of acute neurological illness.

I have been interested in developing a website for sometime.

Since joining the SiteBuildIt Community in August 2008, I have started to realise that goal.

My aim is to make it the premier online headache reference for people who have headache or want to treat headache.
